Card sales surge boosts profits

70% jump helps International Greetings earn £7.1m

A SEVENTY per cent surge in single greetings card sales in the UK has helped push International Greetings profits up.

The 37 per cent jump in profits announced this week means Hatfield-based IG saw underlying pre-tax profits hit £7.1 million in the year to March 31.
Shares in the company, which was formed in 1979 and now sells Christmas crackers, cards and stationery in 20 countries including to Card Factory and supermarkets here in Britain, were ahead by nearly two per cent after the results were published yesterday.
The company, which supplies the Queen’s crackers, said it benefited from a 70% surge in single card sales in Britain, and has also sold more than two billion linear feet of gift wrap.
The UK and Asian markets make up 53 per cent of group revenue, which increased two per cent to £220.8m in the same period.
