Roaring towards deadline

Baby and LBGT latest categories in US greetings awards

DEADLINE day is looming for the 27th annual Louie Awards run by the Greeting Card Association in the US to celebrate outstanding design, editorial and creativity.

“This year’s theme of The Roaring Louies captures the timeless splendour, excitement and flair of our industry with artistic elegance,” said Tina Benavides, the American Greetings Corporation vice-president who is chairing the awards.
There are a total of 59 categories with Baby and LGBT the latest additions to reflect the growth in these areas, plus birthday, Valentine’s Day and rising star, and most awards have two price points, $4 and below, and above $4 (£2.56).
The entry deadline is December 5 – a week on Friday – and a panel of industry experts will judge submissions in early February, coinciding with the NYNow show in New York, and finalists announced in mid-February.
The five judging criteria are originality, impact, design excellence, sendability and value, and the winners will be revealed at the Louie Awards Gala Night on May 17, 2015, the opening evening of the National Stationery Show at the Javitts Center in New York.
Steve Doyal, GCA president and senior vice-president at Hallmark, said: “The Louie Awards honour the artistic and creative contributions the greeting card and social expression community brings to our everyday life.
“The awards celebrate the powerful, emotional impact the simple gesture of sending a card and personal note has on both the sender and the recipient.”
