Extended hours

Move follows consultation after BLE date clash with Yom Kuppur

AS RECORD numbers of retailers have been recorded as attending Brand Licensing Europe, extended opening hours have been announced for the 2016 event to work around Yom Kippur.

The move follows BLE organisers UBM Advanstar’s extensive consultation with exhibitors and visitors for the show that runs from October 11-13, because Yom Kippur, the holiest time of the year for Jews, falls on the first two days as the timing is based on the new moon.
Darren Brechin, BLE Event Director, said “We have investigated all options to work around this unfortunate date clash, and extended opening hours are the best solution to allow colleagues celebrating Yom Kippur to fully participate in the 2016 event.
“Once again, we would like to apologise to all of our colleagues and friends affected and thank them for their understanding. We are committed to the continual process of evolving the event around our customers ever-changing needs.”
Exhibitors at the only pan-European event dedicated to licensing and brand extension were asked to comment and review the situation, with the result that the 2016 show will now open as follows:
Day 1 – Tuesday Open to visitors one hour earlier, at 8am, close as usual at 5pm.
Day 2 – Wednesday Open to visitors as usual at 9am, close at 5pm.
Day 3 – Thursday Open as usual at 9am, close one hour later at 5pm.
The 2015 show in October was officially the biggest yet in its 17-year history with a 19 per cent rise in the number of retailers attending, taking the total visitors across the three days to 7,203 (BPA audited) with one third from overseas.
Darren added: “This year’s show was the best yet, with more visitors, exhibitors and education than ever before – increasing retail attendance is always a key priority for us, and we are, therefore, delighted with the end results.
“The Retail Buyers’ Lounge was packed during the show, demonstrating that BLE is now firmly established as a key date in the retail diary. We are now looking forward to developing next year’s show and will make some exciting announcements soon.”
