Trek team’s £10k smashes target

Retailers’ efforts come from the heart to boost Cardgains’ MND charity challenge

A FANTASTIC effort by a new team means this year’s Cardgains Charity Challenge will smash the fund-raising target of £12,000 for the MND Association.

John and Nicole George run the From The Heart shop in Maryport, Cumbria, and their team of 13 completed the buying group’s 28½-mile trek from Dungeon Ghyll to Ulverston in the Lake District – and they have collected £10,000 for the charity.
Sales assistant Dawn Watson said: “John mentioned the walk as he knows that my sister’s husband has motor neurone disease so we decided to take part – it’s really amazing that we’ve raised so much.
“We’re really proud of ourselves because we didn’t think we’d be able to finish the walk but we just seemed to keep each other going.”
John and Nicole are pictured having finished the walk, and with the whole team of Dawn, her sisters Heather Watson, Gail Mavir and Julie Gartland, whose husband Kevin inspired their efforts, along with family and friends Jacqueline Nicholson, Rachel Nicholson, Anne Heaney, Jasmine Fearon, Emily Messenger, Jacqueline Gartland, and Katie Cartman.
Chris Dyson, Cardgains joint MD, said: “This year was yet another great Cardgains Charity Challenge achievement with over 30 industry colleagues successfully walking.
“These guys are a new team with their own personal connection to the MND Association, our chosen charity for 2018 – headed up by John and Nicole, they’ve raised a staggering £10,000 which means we’ll smash our target of £12,000!
“Their store in Maryport is really terrific and John is a great character with a great sense of humour.”
