Peter Rabbit burrows in at UKG

Publishers add one of world’s oldest licensed characters to their portfolio

PETER Rabbit has found himself a new burrow as the UK Greetings have sealed the deal to take on Beatrix Potter’s creation, one of the oldest licensed characters in history.

UKG have worked with Silvergate Media, the global licensing agent for Peter Rabbit on behalf of Penguin Ventures, part of Penguin Random House UK, to add the Classic Peter Rabbit licence to their acclaimed portfolio.
Beatrix Potter is one of the world’s best-loved children’s authors with her stories delighting children for more than 110 years with over two million books sold every year – approximately four copies per minute. Since its publication in 1902, The Tale Of Peter Rabbit has never been out of print and has sold more than 40m copies worldwide.
Peter Rabbit is a heritage property filled with charm, giving it a timeless quality that makes it ideal for greetings cards and gift-wrap, appealing to consumers young and old.
Sarah Johnson, UKG licensing manager, said: “UKG are delighted to work with such a beautiful property. There’s a wealth of stunning Peter Rabbit artwork from the archives, which we’re excited to turn into greetings cards, gift-wrap and bags. This is a fantastic opportunity and we can’t wait to see the finished product out at retail.”
Lisa Macdonald, VP consumer products and TV sales EMEA at Silvergate Media, added: “We’re delighted to be welcoming UK Greetings to the Peter Rabbit classic licensing programme.
“The property enjoys great success in the gifting space thanks to its long-standing heritage and cross-generational appeal so we’re confident that these new lines will be a hit when they launch at retail.”
UK Greetings’ talented creative team are currently developing brand new product, which is set to launch in the summer.
