Stationery Awards finalists announced

BrownTrout, Paper Mirchi, Vent For Change and I Like Birds make 2019 cut

THE latest stationery product developments and ideas have been sifted through to pick the finalists from more than 370 entries for this year’s Stationery Awards.

With organisers Ocean Media keen to give the judges longer to review the products, for the first time the panel looked at the entries prior to the Stationery Show London – this year running over April 30-May 1 at the Business Design Centre in Islington.
With 11 product categories, a Good Design section, and the Judges’ Choice to pick, along with finalists for the new Stationery Designer award, the panel were kept busy, with BrownTrout Publishing, Paper Mirchi, Vent For Change, and Quadrille Publishing’s I Like Birds planner among those who have made the cut.
“Ably guided once again by chairman Henri Davis, our hard-working judges gave up their day to review the supplier entries – which this year came to just over 370 items!” said event manager Hazel Fieldwick.
“This year’s judging line-up represented a wide cross-section of stationery retail and they all enjoyed meeting and getting to know each other during the judging process.”
This year’s judges are Abigail Ball, deputy stationery and card buyer at Fenwick; Chris Lambert, founder of Scrawlr; Debbie Wigglesworth, consultant at The Paper Passionist; Katy Golden, head of gift at The Great British Card Company; Mark Hayhurst; editor at Craft Business; Sarah Laker, owner of Stationery Supplies Marple, and Sidonie Warren,co-founder of Papersmiths.
In the new Stationery Designer category entrants were asked to supply up to three A3 design boards showing at least three stationery items with the theme The Next Big Thing, along with an explanation of who their designs should appeal to and the likely RRP, and the winner will work with sponsors Go Stationery to see their ideas taken into production.
All the finalists – listed below – will be on display at the show with the winners to be revealed at the awards ceremony following the opening day on Tuesday, April 30, where the Best Of The Best Judges’ Choice will also be announced.
Hazel added: “The judging panel will be on hand at the awards evening to help us hand out the Winner trophies – they did a great job for us, so will be good to give them a round of applause too!”
