GBCC negotiations continue

Ling Design owners working on saving 40-year-old publishers

SWAN Mill CEO David Byk is back at Great British Card Company today, Tuesday, August 27, continuing the advanced talks to take the publishers under the same umbrella as Ling Design.

It was announced on Friday, August 23, that Swan Mill, who also own Penny Kennedy, Talking Pictures, The Curious Inksmith and Saffron, are working towards buying the goodwill and assets of GBCC, including their brokerage arm Waterwells Distribution.
The move came shortly after GBCC appointed BDO Stoy Hayward as administrative receivers after the failure of several attempts to save the business.
It was founded in 1980 by Peter Reichwald as Paperhouse with business partner Chris Wilcox. Peter officially retired from the company in June 2017, staying as a shareholder but Chris continued as MD.
An announcement of the success of the deal, which will double Swan Mill’s greetings card operations, is expected this week with David continuing negotiations today at their Gloucester HQ so all deliveries of everyday, Christmas, charity and Waterwells’ brokerage stock will be able to continue as usual.
David (pictured) said: “We will be working hard over the bank holiday weekend to look to conclude this deal so we can give the customers, employees, licensors and suppliers the reassurance that this well-known and well-respected company will continue to supply their fantastic greetings cards for many years to come.”
