Spirito up for a triple

Glasgow store make third best retailer finals for second year running


A HAT-TRICK could be on the cards for Spirito for the second year running as they’ve just been named as finalists in Scotland’s Bespoke Retailer Of The Year category.

Having lifted the title in the Scottish Independent Retail Awards last year, Denise Laird and her team at the Glasgow greetings and gift store have their fingers crossed for this year’s ceremony on April 9.
“We’re absolutely delighted and very excited to hear the fabulous news,” Denise said, “Thank you so much to everyone who voted and nominated us! It was a lovely surprise and means so much to us.”
With 27 categories covering all aspects of retailing, Creative Oceanic’s Scottish Independent Retail Awards in partnership with United are in their ninth year of celebrating the country’s independents who enhance the local community and economy.
Spirito are among the nine finalists in the Bespoke Retailer South sector, vying with Black House, Gullane; Elba Artisan Gallery, Milngavie; The Herbary, Troon; Ivad Gifts, Paisley; The Nandy Smillie Shop, Glasgow; Paper Tiger, Edinburgh; Pretty Pink, Edinburgh, and Thimbles Dressmakers, Motherwell.
In the North category, the finalists are 4eyedimensions, Kirkcaldy; Curated Stories, Aberdeen; Everlongart Studio & Gift Shop, Alford; Geek Bothy, Kemnay; Holly Mae’s & Crafts, Laurencekirk; JP Pozzi, Buckie; Ninewells Gift Shop, Dundee; The Peacock And The Tortoise, Perth; The Portsoy Gift Box, Portsoy, and The Spotty Bag Shop, Banff.
There’s also a Book Shop Of The Year category where the niminations are Atkinson-Pryce Books, Glasgow; Books And Beans, Aberdeen; Calton Books, Glasgow; The Edinburgh Book Shop, Edinburgh; The Fruitmarket Gallery Bookshop, Edinburgh; The GLO Bookshop, Motherwell; Golden Hare Books, Edinburgh; The Old Bookshelf, Campbelltown, and Voltaire & Rousseau, Glasgow.
A couple of weeks ago Spirito picked up the Scotland’s Business Awards Best Gift Shop In Glasgow trophy for the second year running and are off to the grand final in June where they also triumphed last year, taking home the Best In Scotland title.
And last week they were named as Independent Gift Retailer Of The Year Scotland finalists in the Greats Awards, with staff member Marion Johnstone up for the Retail Employee Of The Year prize.
